Goals likely as Chelsea head to Turf Moor
The early kick-off sees Chelsea looking to crank up the pressure on the teams above them, and a trip to leaky Burnley should give them a real opportunity to do just that in what looks a good candidate for a high-scoring encounter.
Vincent Kompany’s side slid closer to the relegation scrap with defeat away at West Ham last time out, their seventh league loss of the campaign and another afternoon that underlined their defensive problems. Only one Premier League side has shipped more goals so far, a far cry from the disciplined outfit that cruised through the Championship last season.
Going forward, though, Burnley have been livelier than you might expect from a team in their position. They’ve scored more league goals than a clutch of mid-table rivals and over 2.5 goals has landed in five of their last seven matches in all competitions, so Turf Moor has seen its fair share of entertainment lately.
Chelsea, meanwhile, rarely do dull. Their Premier League fixtures are averaging close to three goals per game and seven of their last eight in all competitions have produced at least three goals, with Enzo Maresca encouraging his side to play on the front foot even away from home. That attacking intent, coupled with occasional defensive lapses, makes over 2.5 goals an obvious starting point.
Blues’ firepower to make the difference
Burnley’s main issue is how often their back line is being exposed. They’ve conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven outings, and another step up in class here looks problematic. Chelsea have scored at least twice in four of their last five away games, and their pace and movement in the final third should stretch the hosts again.
With Burnley still capable of nicking a goal but struggling to keep things tight for 90 minutes, a narrow away success looks the most likely outcome. A repeat of a familiar storyline – the underdogs battling hard but being picked off by superior quality – points towards Chelsea to win 2-1 as a value correct-score play to sit alongside the goals bet.
