Champions League Matchday 2 Preview: Man City v PSG Headlines a Huge Week for the English Clubs
The Champions League is back after the international break, and Matchday 2 has plenty to get stuck into. Over Tuesday and Wednesday night, all six Premier League sides are in action — Arsenal and Man United on Tuesday, then Liverpool, Aston Villa and Man City on Wednesday — with the pick of the lot a proper heavyweight clash at the Etihad between City and holders PSG. Here’s the full breakdown with odds courtesy of bet365, plus where we think the value sits.
FootballMine’s Quick Take
- Man City v PSG is too close to call: City are 23/20 at the Etihad, PSG 2/1 — we like the draw at 14/5.
- Man United look a big price in Madrid: 13/8 against an Atlético side who lost their opener at Anfield.
- Villa to back up their Bruges win: 7/10 at home to Fenerbahçe on Wednesday night.
- Short prices elsewhere: Arsenal (1/5), Liverpool (3/11) and Barcelona (3/10) are all heavy favourites — little value backing them straight up.
Tuesday 13 October
| Fixture | UK | Home | Draw | Away |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arsenal v Lille | 20:00 | 1/5 | – | 14/1 |
| Atlético Madrid v Man United | 20:00 | 11/8 | 11/4 | 13/8 |
| Galatasaray v Barcelona | 20:00 | 7/1 | 9/2 | 3/10 |
Also on Tuesday: Lens v Sporting CP and Sabah v Slavia Praha (17:45), plus Inter v Club Brugge, Leipzig v PSV, Viking v Bayern München and Villarreal v Napoli (20:00).
Atlético Madrid v Man United
The tie of the night for English fans. Atlético opened their campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Anfield, so Diego Simeone’s side are already playing catch-up — and the Metropolitano will be loud. United, back in the Champions League this season, eased past Sabah 4-0 at Old Trafford on Matchday 1. The market has it as tight as you like, but we think United arrive in better shape than 13/8 suggests.
Our tip: Man United to win — 13/8. An odds-against price for a side with three points already in the bag.
Arsenal v Lille
Last season’s beaten finalists started with a gritty 1-0 win in Naples and now host a Lille side beaten 3-2 at home by Real Betis on Matchday 1. At 1/5 there’s no value in backing the Gunners straight up — this one’s more for watching than betting.
Galatasaray v Barcelona
Barça put five past Feyenoord in their opener and are a skinny 3/10 in Istanbul, while Galatasaray were beaten 3-1 in Lisbon. A hostile atmosphere awaits, but the market doesn’t fancy an upset.
Wednesday 14 October
| Fixture | UK | Home | Draw | Away |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LASK v Liverpool | 17:45 | – | – | 3/11 |
| Aston Villa v Fenerbahçe | 20:00 | 7/10 | 29/10 | 15/4 |
| Man City v PSG | 20:00 | 23/20 | 14/5 | 2/1 |
| Roma v Real Madrid | 20:00 | 11/4 | 27/10 | 10/11 |
Also on Wednesday: Feyenoord v Como (17:45), plus Shakhtar v AEK Athens, Bodø/Glimt v Dortmund, Real Betis v Porto and Slovan Bratislava v Stuttgart (20:00). Odds correct at the time of writing and subject to change.

Man City v PSG
The big one. Enzo Maresca’s City opened with a 2-0 win at Porto, while PSG — the reigning European champions — thumped Slovan Bratislava 6-1. There’s a neat subplot too, with Gianluigi Donnarumma lining up against the club he won the trophy with in 2025. With both sides already off the mark, neither will want to lose this early in the league phase, and a cagey contest looks the most likely script.
Our tip: The Draw — 14/5. Two elite sides who know each other well; a share of the spoils feels right.
Aston Villa v Fenerbahçe
Villa showed real character to win 3-2 in Bruges on Matchday 1. Fenerbahçe drew 1-1 at home to Roma in their opener and came through qualifying unbeaten, so they’re no pushovers — but Villa Park on a European night is a tough place to go.
Our tip: Aston Villa to win — 7/10. Home advantage and momentum from that Bruges win.
LASK v Liverpool and Roma v Real Madrid
Liverpool beat Atlético 2-1 at Anfield on Matchday 1 and are 3/11 in Linz, having won both of their Europa League meetings with LASK in 2023/24. With a Premier League game three days later, rotation is likely. In Rome, Real Madrid follow up their 2-1 win over Inter as 10/11 favourites against a Roma side held 1-1 in Istanbul.
The Bottom Line
A cracking week for the English clubs. The tie at the Etihad looks too close to call, so we’re taking the draw at 14/5, while Man United at 13/8 in Madrid is the bigger-priced fancy and Aston Villa at 7/10 the shortest of our three picks. Our tips are opinions, not guarantees — set your budget before kick-off and stick to it.
