Dubois vs Wardley 2 Preview & Odds: Dubois 2/7 to Defend His WBO Title at The O2

Dubois vs Wardley 2 - WBO World Heavyweight Title rematch at The O2

Revenge, or a repeat? It’s a huge weekend for British boxing, and top of the bill is an all-British heavyweight rematch for the WBO World Title. Daniel Dubois defends the belt he took from Fabio Wardley back in May, when he survived two trips to the canvas to stop the Ipswich man in the 11th round. Wardley triggered his rematch clause, and on Saturday night at The O2 in London he gets his shot at taking it back. Here’s everything you need to know, plus the key odds from bet365.

FootballMine’s Quick Take

  • Dubois is a firm favourite: 2/7 to keep his title, with Wardley the 5/2 underdog.
  • Few expect it to go the distance: it’s 2/9 that the fight doesn’t reach the scorecards, 3/1 that it does.
  • Wardley’s route is power: 7/2 to win by stoppage, but 18/1 on points.
  • Our tip: history repeating — Dubois to win in rounds 10–12 at 11/2.

Fight One: Two Knockdowns, Then Dynamite

Wardley walked into Co-op Live in May as the WBO champion and unbeaten as a pro, and for a while it looked like the night was going his way. He dropped Dubois twice early on — and with Dubois’ previous fight having ended in a knockout defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, plenty of fans in the 18,000-plus crowd will have feared the worst for the Londoner.

This time, though, Dubois kept getting up. He grew into the fight, kept the pressure on, and finally broke Wardley down in the 11th round to take the title and hand him his first professional defeat. It was the sort of comeback that changes how people see a fighter — and it’s why the bookies make him such a strong favourite second time around.

Revenge or Repeat? Our Tips

Can Wardley do it this time?

Wardley showed in the first fight that he can hurt Dubois, and he’s priced at 7/2 to produce a stoppage and take back the WBO title. There’s even a 4/1 price on him putting Dubois down twice again. But he’ll need to finish the job this time — at 18/1 on points, the bookies don’t see him winning a decision.

Why Dubois is the favourite

Getting off the floor twice to win a world title takes some doing, and Dubois looked to grow in resolve as the fight went on. The 8/15 on a Dubois stoppage tells you how likely bet365 thinks it is that he finishes the job again, while an exact repeat — Dubois to win in round 11 — is 16/1. Fancy a late finish but not sure who lands it? Either fighter to win in rounds 10–12 is 5/1.

Our tip: Dubois to win in Rounds 10–12 — 11/2. He wore Wardley down late last time, and a bigger price than backing him straight up at 2/7.

Our tip: Over 5.5 Rounds — 4/9. Both men took big shots in fight one and stayed in it well past halfway.

On the Undercard

There’s plenty to get stuck into before the main event. Louie O’Doherty and Mikey Gomez Jr meet for the British and Commonwealth lightweight titles, while two-time Olympic champion Bakhodir Jalolov takes on Solomon Dacres at heavyweight. Running orders can change on the night.

The Bottom Line

Dubois is the 2/7 favourite for a reason after the way he came back in May, but Wardley’s power means nobody at The O2 will be relaxed until the final bell — or the referee’s wave-off. We’re backing Dubois to finish strong again in rounds 10–12 at 11/2, with Over 5.5 Rounds at 4/9 the shorter option. Our tips are opinions, not guarantees — set your budget before the first bell and stick to it.
