Chelsea vs Manchester City: Preview, Team News & Prediction
The FA Cup Final. Under the arch. Chelsea vs Manchester City. On paper it’s a glamour tie — in reality, it’s a mismatch the table and form guide both agree on. Pep Guardiola’s side have a chance to end two consecutive final defeats; Chelsea are just hoping to make a game of it.
City’s Machine Keeps Rolling
Nine games unbeaten across all competitions. Eight wins. A 3-0 demolition of Crystal Palace in midweek. Manchester City arrive at Wembley in the kind of form that makes them look practically unstoppable, and they’ve already lifted silverware at this venue this season — February’s EFL Cup final win over Arsenal confirmed this group still has plenty left in the tank.
Erling Haaland was deliberately rested against Palace with the final in mind, and that feels ominous for Chelsea. The Norwegian has scored in each of his last four starts and helped himself to a hat-trick against Liverpool in the quarter-finals. When he’s fresh and motivated, he is simply unplayable at this level.
Behind him, the creativity of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva gives City options in every channel. This is a team built for big occasions, and Wembley suits them perfectly.
“We want to go there and win it. Simple as that.” — Pep Guardiola, Friday press conference
Chelsea’s Miserable Run Continues
Since Liam Rosenior’s sacking, Chelsea have looked like a club in freefall. Caretaker Calum McFarlane has overseen just one win in six games, with four defeats in that stretch. They have scored exactly once in each of their last three matches — just enough to avoid blanks, but nowhere near enough to trouble top opposition.
Their head-to-head record against City makes for grim reading. No wins and 10 defeats from the last 13 meetings — including a 3-0 hammering at Stamford Bridge just last month. That is the kind of statistic that stays in a dressing room whether you want it to or not.
There are individual bright spots — Cole Palmer can unlock any defence on his day and Nicolas Jackson has the pace to trouble City’s high line — but this Chelsea side lacks the collective quality to back those individuals up consistently enough over 90 minutes at Wembley.

Team News
Chelsea
Reece James and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined through long-term injuries. The disruption caused by Rosenior’s mid-season exit has unsettled preparations and McFarlane faces selection headaches in defence. Cole Palmer is fit and expected to start, with Nicolas Jackson leading the line.
Manchester City
Erling Haaland was rested in midweek and is fully available. Rodri remains out long-term but City have coped remarkably in his absence. Guardiola has a near-full squad to choose from and is expected to name a strong XI to seal a domestic cup double.
Recent Form
Most recent on the right. City are unbeaten in 9 across all competitions. Chelsea have four defeats in their last six games.

Prediction
City’s form, depth, and big-game pedigree all point firmly in one direction here. Chelsea will likely get on the scoresheet — they have in all three games under McFarlane — but keeping City out long enough to cause a genuine upset feels well beyond this side right now. Haaland, rested and fully refreshed, is the obvious match-winner, and City have scored three in each of their last three outings. Back the Sky Blues to lift the trophy comfortably.
